"It's show time folks" quoting from the 1970's movie All That Jazz was truly the order of the do Ishanya Jazz Utsav 2011 hosted by The Westin Pune Koregaon Park in association with Ishanya Mall. The event saw international Jazz artistes as well as Indian embellishing the atmosphere with tunes that brought the audience to swing and tap their toes. The senior leadership team of the hotel was present to usher into melodious evening with the other dignitaries and hotel guests.

Blissful Enlightenment - The Festival of Diwali

For all our guests who hail from foreign land we share the spirit and story of the most enriching festival of India and wish upon the glory it has to offer to all. 


Diwali as most popularly known over the globe as the "Indian festival of lights" is one of the most important festivals of the year and is celebrated in families by performing traditional activities together in their homes.The name "Diwali" is a contraction of "Deepavali" in Sanskrit - an ancient Indian language, which translates into "row of lamps". Diwali involves the lighting of small clay lamps (a.k.a dipas in Sanskrit or diyas in Hindi) filled with oil to signify the triumph of good over evil. During Diwali, all the celebrants wear new clothes and share sweets and snacks with family members and friends.

The festival starts with Dhanteras (Dhan translates to wealth in Sanskrit) which marks the beginning of the financial year for most Indian business communities. The second day of the festival, Naraka Chaturdasi, marks the vanquishing of the demon Naraka by Lord Krishna and his wife Satyabhama. Amavasya, the third day of Deepawali, marks the worship of Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth in her most benevolent mood, fulfilling the wishes of her devotees. Amavasya also tells the story of Lord Vishnu, who in his dwarf incarnation vanquished the Bali, and banished him to Patala. It is on the fourth day of Deepawali, Kartika Shudda Padyami, that Bali went to patala and took the reins of his new kingdom in there. The fifth day is referred to as Yama Dvitiya (also called Bhai Dooj), and on this day sisters invite their brothers to their homes.

While the story behind Deepavali and the manner of celebration varies from region to region (festive fireworks, worship, lights, sharing of sweets), the essence is the same – to rejoice in the Inner Light (Atman) or the underlying Reality of all things (Brahman).

It was the day where everybody at the hotel was supporting a cause so that many women in India could live in the pink of health. The Westin Pune Koregaon Park engaged its associates and partners on October 21, 2011 to create awareness about breast cancer by supporting a cause in partnership with Elle Breast Cancer Campaign India and Ogaan Breast Cancer Foundation. We were proud and happy to 'Wear Pink to Work' and share our passion towards better knowledge about breast cancer with the help of Elle Breast Cancer Campaign India.
